Modified Epoxy Saturant
Max Composites Limited not only supplies various FRP products which is used in structural strengthening, structural reinforcement, concrete repairs and seismic retrofitting, but also compatible resin system. The saturant is epoxy based two-component resin. The FRP(fiber reinforced polymers) fabric must be used together compatible resin to function. The saturant transfers stress between the fibers, meanwhile protect the fibers from damage (physical and chemical) after cure. It plays a very important role in the whole FRP wrap system. It’s the saturant interfering with the substrate to result in the bonding. The FRP woven fabric can be completely impregnated by the saturant through the before attached to the substrate surface, which is called “wet layup”. In another way, the woven fabric can be impregnated with roller after it’s bonded to the substrate surface, which has been coated with the saturant before the bonding process, which is called “dry layup”.
During the process, these cautions should be taken.
- The resin part A and part B should be mixed thoroughly til the color of the mixture is even
- The substrate surface should be clean and sound
- The fabric saturation should be complete
- No air voids should be existing in the fiber-resin matrix
- The fiber-resin matrix should be protected from external impact
- Necessary fire proof coating and UV proof coating should be done as per actual need
